I agree with those who say that giving green cards to the three hundred thousand wannabe immigrants will not turn the economy around tomorrow, and perhaps in the short period there doesn't seem to be an apparant advantage. After all, these are the cash cows that are milked everyday by way of taxes and the ever increasing USCIS fees.
However, it is important to consider the larger picture with a view on the next few years. Even if a few thousand people go and buy a house, it will make a difference to the local community, however small it may be. If a few thousand people are able to start their own business, it will lead to the creation of a few more thousand jobs, which is still better than the current number - zero. Even if a few thousand decide to get a higher education, or get promoted, America will be richer in the quality of its people by those many, however small that number may be. And I bet thousands of those high skilled immigrants will demand a higher salary which which will not only level the playing field, but also result in higher pay. And need I mention the effect of higher salaries on the propensity to consume?
I haven't even gotten into the social advantages of having a home where both parents are able to think and work freely, and the effect that has on the upbringing of their children (more than likely US citizens).
Now, what does it really cost the US govt./America to give out the green card? As far as the issue of social security is concerned, these wannabes will be eligible anyway after 10 years, whether they have a green card or not. The USCIS fees for renewal is a about a $1000 per year, which pales in comparison to the the new car that I will buy :) What else, lawyer fees? People are worried about lawyers being displaced! You got to be kidding - immigration law is not the only kind of law practiced in this part of the world. I would be worried more for them if Americans decided not to get divorced.
So, my question is:
Do the costs of giving out green cards to high skilled professionals really outweigh some the benefits mentioned above?

I understand from your signature that you Receipt date is 7/2/07. was your case transferred to Vermont or something and transferred back to TSC. Do you know what was the Receipt date mentioned in the Transfer Notice.
I am just trying to guess when they may come to my case. My receipt date for 485 was from Vermont and is 7/31/07. But then it was transferred back to Texas and this has a Receipt date of 10/1/07. I am just trying to find out which Receipt date will be considered to pre-adjudicate my application.

my case was never transferred from anywhere..it remained in NSC. my gut feeling says that they have gone past ur case, since you are in 2002 and i am in 2003, in which case, you probably will not get any RFE

The unbelievable growth in India made me explore a bit in terms of investments, ended up with the financial advise and recommendation from experts that we cannot directly invest in equity as an NRI. mbawa.. It is always nice to sit on the side and blame it all on the leaders here. First thing you have to remember is that these poor/great folks (poor for representing people like you and great for working for representing all immigrant hopefuls) are really working for YOU and me. It is quite convenient to blame others than doing things yourself. If you think you are any better, why not come up with your USEFUL/GREAT ideas and see if the IV core respects those ideas or not. Lobbying or not, when the government is ready to think about CIR or immigration in general, I am pretty sure that IV can make OUR voice heard. Got the point?
Problem is not the members but the overall stratergy. I understand ur emotions but certainly we need change and action. Without aggressive stratergy that can punch the noses of people against our agenda, we will not be successful. As I said - this is not personal at all. I know some of core people very well and they are competent and bright boys. This has to do with overall stratergy and we need to be bit more agressive .Without a new team which will bring in a coordinated effort & energy into this , we will not make it. CIR may get passed and other immigration categories may benefit at our cost if we don't change our course . Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

That's interesting. This is the first TSC case of pre-adjudication activity for EB3-I with PD similar to yours that I have noticed in the forums.

Once they accept I-485 in the system then they give us a Receipt#, with that Receipt we can file for EAD / AP (as long as your PD becomes available) then they will process your I-485, Just thinking.. what do you say guys ... Please lete me know.. Receipt Date Vs Visa Number ...

I guess the reason for moving back eb2 I dates is strategic. Since they have the whole year to use the 140 K visas, they might be trying to start the year conservatively, trying to honor FIFO.
The aggressive movement of dates in last quarter was ONLY to prevent the visa number wastage.
I think the reason for the retrogression in EB2-I is obvious.
There are only 800 visas available for EB2-I for any given quarter (remember the 7% country quota). The spill overs from EB2-ROW and EB1 start only after few months.
EB2-I will move after the DOS looks at the unused visa numbers from EB2-ROW and EB1, hope fully next quarter.
There are no spill overs into EB3-I, so it won't move any time soon.
Note: I am not commenting on USCIS approving cases with later dates before older priority dates.

If you are stuck at Atlanta PERM backlog center , please email your case number and explain them that your application has been pending for a LONG time and request them to help us get out of this grave situation. Also, please post on this thread after you have sent an email so that others can be motivated to do the same. We need to send as many emails as possible to get any positive feedback. I know that DOL mentioned that they will start processing our applications soon, but we need to keep up the pressure from our end so that it has some positive effect.
I know most of the people on this forum are not in this situation ..... but let's see how many can come out of this selfishness and help others by emailing / phoning DOL Atlanta to help other brothers who want to file AOS just like them...... My suggestion for everyone reading this is - do not send this information to your Company or HR department. They could ask us to table this additional cost. I work for Accenture so I hope that this does not apply to my employer with less than 50% employees on visa. But I'm not going to write to them asking about this because they may turn around asking us to eat this new cost.

My application was finally approved yesterday after almost 7 years in queue. Here is the sequence of events right before the approval.

2nd Biometrics Notice received on 02/17/09
Lawyer receives RFE for EVL, EAD cards and Marriage Certificate on 02/24/09
Completed Code 3 Biometrics on 02/26/09
Soft LUD immediately after Biometrics on 02/26/09
USCIS receives RFE reply on 02/27/09, Hard LUD and email on the same day

I got my 485 approved yesterday. I applied for my 485 this June 13th I got my approval yesterday I am very happy about it. I hope everyone who applied will get their approval soon. Basically I am in marketing I want to get trained in java to get into IT field. Please let me know you�re thought is this a good move.

Scheduled a $11 contribution to go out on the first day i.e. 7/21/2008 available via DCU bill pay.
